Breaking open the sake barrel

A traditional Japanese ceremony performed at weddings and official openings that is thought to bring luck. We learnt about it at the Britain and Japan 400 years event at All Saints Church in Fulham. John Saris, who opened the first trade route with Japan in 1613 is buried there.

A programme of readings and music told the story, whilst the audience was refreshed with sake and Japanese Suntory wine.

Next event will be a tasting at the Japanese embassy to celebrate the IWC award winning sakes.
